    John,

    I want to tell you my experience - I previously worked for a company that bought about 1,000 single family homes in Chicago area. Each town has its own rules when it comes to inspection - some require point of sale inspection, rental inspection and etc. We've encountered many of these inspection and violation situations and we concluded that it also depends on the inspector - If you don't have a good relationship with town inspector, they will try to pick on anything and everything that is wrong with your property. If "violations" do not get paid they always send them to collections. you can try going to court and contesting , but we found that the lawyer almost always costs more than the violation fee.
