@Maile Winward which timeshare brand is it--Hilton, Marriott, etc?

@Elijah F. it’s Hilton Elara and the seller has some points on it but I’m not sure if that makes any difference.

@Maile Winward Help them by finding someone who does this. It will depend on the area if you are in Hawaii and the time share is start there. But if you are looking for help offloading a timeshare in North Dakota (not sure if they have them)it may be a bit different of a process.

If you can't find anyone go backwards and look into buying them on a secondary market, and you will meet the folks who are selling them.

Cheers!

@Chris Davidson thanks for the advice.

Aloha all,

I’m currently getting into the real estate world and have come across someone who has requested my help with her problem. Naturally I want to help everyone I can as that’s how I feel we truly become successful. However have no idea about the time share game (nor do I want to get into it).

I was hoping someone in the thousands of people here could provide me with some insight, reliable resources, or best yet a credible person in Hawaii that I could direct this client to.

I appreciate any and all help!

I would look up recent sales of timeshares and connect with those agents/brokers who did those deals.

@Marc Rice thank you for the advice

Aloha Maile,

I live in Hawaii but invest out of state. Was in your shoes 3 years ago so know the feeling. It’s hard at the beginning because you don’t know what you don’t know. Defining your goals is super important but always happy to chat and share my experiences!

Hey @John Rankin

Thanks, and yes it’s very overwhelming but I know the end goal can be exactly what I need to set myself and my family up for success.  Have you invested back in Hawaii now that you have experience out of state?

Aloha everyone!
My name is Maile, 32 real soon born and raised in Hawaii.  I have been listening to the bigger pockets podcast for about 6 months. Starting from 1 and trying to get to the the newest ones lol. I’m almost at my 100 episode milestone I created for myself 😂.

I’ve always been interested in realestate  investment but have been having such a hard time finding a solid group of people to learn from and understand that in Hawaii, most times even 2-incomes are not enough to survive. Especially with 2 little ones.  The people I have talked to want me to go into realestate sales 300% or just want to sell me something 😓.  Bigger pockets has really given me hope and so much knowledge from house-hacking tips, to “Just do it” pep talks and all the great golden nuggets I pick up from every episode (even the mobile homes segments).  My biggest fear and obstacle is that I can’t drive to another state to check things out being on a rock in the middle of the sea. May I add the price for paradise really is a pretty golden penny.  My eyes always pop out of my head when I hear guests talking about buying whole apartment complexes with 20 units for the same price it would cost for a literal grass shack in Hawaii with maybe a fence.  However I know there are deals and potential here I just need to find them.

I hope there are some patient experienced “lions” out there within Hawaii or familiar with Hawaii’s market that could help this (semi) young-pup out, weather it be an awesome conversation, tips or tricks to help find the right path of direction or the dream/goal of a life long friend and mentorship.

Thanks for reading my post. I finally listened to the, loud and clear quick tip reminder, to introduce myself here and not only listen to the pod cast. Hope you have a great day!

Hi Maile, I'm in CA but invested in HI(BI). HI is unique because it's the highest appreciation market in US. I think there're lot more opportunity in HI especially in flip as developers/contractors are scarce, if you just wanna buy another apartment in Ohio, then you dont have local competitve advantage.

You could also open niche business in HI,  I know if you can open auto repair facilityfor example it's very money making in there :)

Hi @Carlos Ptriawans. Definitely opportunities for flipping here. My big worry is that since the prices of even our smallest and most run down houses are quite high, a mistake may leave me in too deep of a hole to try again. So I’ve been tryna do my due diligence to understand the different parts of finding a good deal with the resources I do have. Driving for $$$, utilizing foreclosure websites I hear about from bigger pockets, etc.

Thank you for the supportive words and advice!

Hi Maile, what a beautiful family you have there. Welcome to BiggerPockets! This is surely the best place to start networking and learning. I always recommend the book “Rich dad, Poor dad” by Robert T. Kiyosaki to anyone starting out. Continue your progress in listening to the BiggerPockets podcast it is very informative. Start growing your network, look on Facebook/BiggerPockets for different events, find a mentor doing what you want to do, and get to know the local lenders/brokers. All the best to your real estate journey!

Thank you. I listened to the audio book Rich Dad poor Dad after the 3rd time it was mentioned on the podcasts lol.  I really enjoyed it.  The difference of perspectives was a real eye opener. I also liked his short YouTube video lecture on how he was tested in his class to get his first property in Hawaii with $0 of his own money. Mind blowing!

Thanks for taking the time to show support!

Hey @Maile Winward - thanks for putting yourself out there. I know how it feels with thinking that you're falling behind... the online content is a double edge sword. On one hand it's very inspiring to keep listening to the podcasts, on another hand they'll only share the success stories and highlights of the diamonds in the rough.

Most of real estate requires hard word. I agree, you should stay away from anyone trying to sell you their course to get your foot in the door with investing lol!

If I'm in your shoes, I'd take it to the next level instead of just consuming content: go and attend a real estate event in your market. You could argue that everything is expensive where you're at, but it doesn't mean that deals don't exist... nor that you need to only put in your money to make a deal happen.

Big secret I learnt last year, if you find the deal - the money will always follow :)

Thank you so much for you supportive words. I’m definitely looking forward to attending a real estate event soon and like you said take that next step. Personally I would like to get into realestate sales since I’ve been in sales all my life however I’m finding it hard to digest all of the laws and I’m not ready to leave my job since to get my first home I understand I need history of employment.

Thanks for the advise and positive words!

Hi Devin, no I haven’t. Not yet at least. Through the podcasts I’ve been hearing very positive things about how to find meetups through the website and how to connect with people in my area. That was the big push for me to finally make my own profile. Thanks for the supportive words!

Aloha

Hey Maile! What island are you on? I'm holding an in-person meetup next Friday evening in Ewa Beach, Oahu. Would love to connect even if not at the meet up.

Hi Brandon! I’m on Oahu. Shucks I’m working late next Friday. Please let me know when the next one is tho. Ewa Beach isn’t far for me. Thank you!
