I loved renting my DC-area apartment on Airbnb. I would list for $160 a night during the summer (more for special occasions like the Pope’s visit) and around $90 during other months. Since it was my primary residence, it was already furnished and I took my own pictures. Cleanup was also my responsibility. Apartments are starting to mention Airbnb and ban using the space as a rental in their lease agreements. I’m looking to find a duplex to repeat this concept, and furnishing costs are definitely a biggie. I think the investment would be well worth it especially during the touristy months. At this point, I’m hooked on the earning potential and ease of use. Not to mention, Airbnb’s offer unique experiences, more amenities, and less cost than a hotel.
