Can I buy an investment property with cash and then form an LLC, signing the property over to the LLC after I already own it? Or would I need to form the LLC first?

Thanks for the advice @James Wise ! Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find anything I can afford in DC. I think buying an affordable duplex would be out of the question in my immediate area.  However, Baltimore has plenty of multifamily properties within my price range.

Thanks James! This will be my first time as a landlord. I plan on purchasing very soon using a HELOC for the down payment.
