Thanks for the great advice guys. I will definitely check out those locations. My goal is to get into a 2-4 family owner occupied. And I would love to stay close commute within 45 minutes and stay close to my family. Do you think finding a multi family for 200-400k is possible, or completely insane for nyc lol... The two families range from 800-1.2mm by me. I am willing to look in other areas and boroughs. I have heard Bronx, parts of queens (Jamaica, Jackson heights, corona) are very affordable, but also can be dangerous. Is this true? I never have actually been in those parts and I don't know if people are exaggerating. And looking at Bed Stuy and parts of Brooklyn that people have said were dangerous, and have now gentrified and built up to be very valuable areas.  My preference would be to stay in the 5 boroughs if I can. Thanks again guys for any input.

Hey guys, long time reader of the forum I love the wealth of information provided on this website. I live in the NYC area, and was curious how people around here get started. The prices for many two families by me are over a million dollars. I have a decent job and a little saved but nowhere NEAR the down payment requirements for the homes around here. Is it recommended that I get creative with financing and try emerging areas near the city? Thanks for any help!
