Quote from @Scott E.:

As others have suggested, use a loan versus an early withdrawal to avoid the penalty and subsequent tax hit.

I did this twice to fund deals when I was still in corporate America. The profits I made from the real estate far exceeded the loan interest (which was interest I was paying back to myself anyway).

Just need to make sure you buy the right deal that has a strong enough cash on cash return to cover your 401k loan, which you should look at basically as a 2nd mortgage.

Hi I think 10% or make a loan instead by 4.25% interest rate. Not sure if that will worth it.

Hi I am new and still learning about REI, I have been listen to BP podcast for a couple months and I think it is time For me to do an Action. My case, I want to do long term rental ( at least to start) so I dont have much cash for 20% down payment. So I am thinking to use 401k withdrawal for my 20% down payment. I work alot overtime so I keep that money for my reserve fund. I already own primary residence and cannot move out yet due to my daughter school. Any recommendations on this? Pls help. Thank you so much in advance!!!!!
