I am moving to a new place in San Jose. and asked the person from whom I am renting to see proof of residence/rental/ownership of the new place. He is hesitant to show it. I dont necessarily think he is lying about leasing the place.. but I think he is afraid that I would call the owner etc.

Obviously I don't sublease that often, so I am wondering, when you sublease a room from another person, do you typically ask to see proof of ownership/rental?

I may have been a bit careless, and should have asked more questions, before I signed the lease documents. i have not yet paid the rent + deposit.. but this kindof also seems suspicious, as I am going to be handing over a large sum of money...

Thanks

Jeff
