Entrepreneurs frequently hear that they must work on the business rather than in it to continually grow. The same holds true for real estate investment. On Sept. 28, school teacher-turned-investor Brittney Calloway – who raised $8.4 million in private funding in just two years - will share her recipe for success at the Diversified Real Estate Investor Group's monthly meeting.

Calloway will discuss implementing systems and onboarding assistants to help investors automate their real estate investment business, as well as their marketing efforts.

She will also discuss how she got started in, and soon dominated, the wholesaling, landlording and home rehabbing markets.

A former special education teacher in Washington, D.C., Calloway was introduced to the real estate business after trying to assist families of her students, who were being evicted or whose homes were going into foreclosure. She quit her full-time job to pursue real estate investment and has since founded her own company, Top Notch Consulting, LLC.

If you go

The meeting is free and open to members and first-time guests. Calloway will also lead an all-day REI Automation workshop on Oct. 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Talamore Country Club. You have probably heard of speed dating, but what about speed networking? The Diversified Real Estate Investor Group (DIG) has modified the concept of this timed matchmaking exercise to pair its members with experts in a variety of fields relevant to real estate investors.

During its July 27 meeting, DIG members and guests will sit down and ask questions of local professionals in three to five minute increments.

“When the bell rings, you have to get up and move to another table,” DIG Executive Director Stephanie Pappas said of the format. “It gives you the opportunity to ask those questions that you may feel ‘I don’t want to ask in front of a room of people.’”

Attendees will be able to rub elbows with others interested in real estate investment while having their questions answered in a wide array of topics, including land lording, negotiating, renovations and real estate flips, public adjusting, basement waterproofing, tax issues, property management, seller financing, wholesaling, home staging, legal questions and more.

Pappas will host the event and be on hand to answer questions about DIG and its member benefits.

If you go

DIG’s Speed Networking will be held on July 27 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Talamore Country Club Clubhouse, 723 Talamore Drive, Ambler. The event features vendors and 30 or more experts who will answer questions in an informal one-on-one format. The event is free to members and first-time guests.
