If you just borrowed a money, it is treated as a loan for you and you might be able to deduct the interest via the basis in the house you Flipped. There is no tax implication when you pay back the loan.
If they were equity partners, they share Profit and Loss based on your agreement.
We dont have the full picture to provide you with the answers.
We bought the property through an LLC which we set up prior to borrowing funds from a hard money lender, rehabbed the property and sold the property to a buyer who was interested in the property after listing it on the market. There was 3 of us on the LLC

I'm not an expert on this, but I'm pretty sure paying them by the hour wouldn't benefit you completely if your just starting.
Example: A whole day paying them by the hour and they generated you no leads. You still have to pay them.
However if you start off by paying them per deal, it insures you both get paid. It is also increases their motivation to close a deal, because their payment depends on it.
Just my opinion.
As for w2s in NY it isn't required unless its over 3500 a year but you can check irs.gov for your state. It should tell you when a w2 is required by law to be issued to an employee. (w2, 1099, etc)

For anyone that is seasoned in this area, can you please offer up some advice.
What would be the estimated cost on a property that requires a complete gut renovation? (minimum-maximum)
Property: Single Family Home, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms
Also any advice on when to take the job and when not to take on the job would be helpful.
Thanks.
