@Rachel N.

Hey Rachel, I'm an insurance broker in SF and have tons of experience with Universal. Universal is a pretty good company here in Florida. Regarding asking State Farm for a quote, State Farm doesn't actually have a P&C side so they just broker it, most likely they will give you a quote with Universal or another similar company but it doesn't hurt to ask.

The cost of policies varies greatly based on how and where the structure is located. It might be worth going into surplus lines i.e Lexington or Scottsdale Insurance companies for a better deal all bundled together. I can help you with some pricing if you are interested, would love to help.

Thanks,

Ricardo Alonso

@Chad R.

Hey Chad, P&C agent here primarily doing work in Miami (everyone has wind and flood insurance.) To answer your scenario the master coverage for the building covers the building itself and common areas SLIDING GLASS DOORS ARE a part of the building. The policy that you're looking for is an HO4 which covers contents, and that HO4 policy NEEDS to have wind coverage to be covered if something happens as a result of a named storm. The master policy will not cover anything you own. Hope this helps!

@Cathey Bayless

Cathey as an insurance broker in Florida I can tell you that @Jason Bott is completely correct in saying "FL is a very turbulent market." Older homes especially fall prey to high premiums because most surplus lines companies don't want to take them on so Citizen's is the last choice for insurers which can be very costly.
