Post: Buying land then subdividing

I'm on the Zoning Board in my town. Make SURE  you know the zoning laws for the locality you want to subdivide in. Some require frontage that might be hard to get on a subdivision unless you put a road in etc... setbacks, minimum lot sizes etc. Allowed uses. Make sure you know exactly what you can and cannot do with the land. Some towns have great staff that will help you evaluate and advise you on land for this purpose. It all depends... just make sure you know what the local requirements are.

I got the book yesterday, have read 1/3rd... so far so good, especially for someone like me that knows close to nothing.

@Tim Lindstrom, one thing I am doing to gather addresses faster is write them down in an abbreviated format - street name, then all the numbers separated by commas.

Then when I get home I open up Google Docs and enter the addresses using voice to text into a document. You can rattle off addresses very quickly this way.

Then I copy and paste from that document into a spreadsheet. It speeds things up significantly.

@Account Closed, may I ask where you sourced the data? It shouldn't be hard to build a front end for that.

@Boyd McClean, I have a trial for Data Tree. Their info is good but it seems they charge to view each property, right? That would end up being cost prohibitive for me as I review hundreds and hundreds of properties a month - would be easier to hire a remote assistant.

@Maurice Miller, I should have an update on my RealeFlow experience within a week or so.

@Steve Bracero and @Tim Lindstrom, yes, I have used listsource, it's great. I'v been driving for dollars, so I get home with a list of 60+ addresses and want to save time finding the owners. I have a tech background so I have an idea to speed the process up with some automation - I was just hoping I could get something off the shelf.

Ann,

Thanks. I think The Warren Group might have what I need.

This is simply about being efficient. I'd rather spend time trying to find properties than doing administrative tasks such as looking up owner addresses.

Thanks guys. But there has got to be an easier way! There's so much data about everyone out there, this should be as simple as getting access to a subscription somewhere.

@Charlie MacPherson how would you find the owners of hundreds and hundreds of properties? Surely there has to be an easier way?
