@Joseph Bafia Nice to connect with someone from wake county. How has it been managing the property from a distance? We have a STR on Smith Mountain Lake in VA and we've had good luck with our maintenance people. I know your properties are in a different area, but I'll need to make some service connections in the mountains, as well.
I would love to share some ideas. I don't really have any firsthand knowledge in the high-country yet, but hopefully I can find a deal soon. Please stay in touch.

Thank you, @Gerald Pitts.
@Derek Robinson Thank you very much for the information! This is extremely helpful. I am surprised at your occupancy rate. Like you, I assumed it would be much more seasonal. That's encouraging.
I stayed in Vilas with some friends in the fall so I'm relatively familiar with it... It's beautiful and a great location. I would love to learn more about your property. Can you send me the listing? Private lending + available property might be a perfect combination.

Hey Everyone, My wife and I are just starting our investment journey. We currently have one short-term rental in VA and we're on the hunt for our second. Our target area is western North Carolina. Specifically in the Boone, Blowing Rock and Banner Elk areas (Watauga County). Can some fellow property owners or mangers give me some information on the strength of the market? How are your properties performing and why?
Also, do you have a solid agent with short term rental experience that you can recommend?
Thank you in advance, Scott and Sarah

Hi All,
I've been listening to Bigger Pockets for years, but have never sifted through the forums. My wife and I are excited to dig in. We are in the process of purchasing our first short term rental property on Smith Mountain Lake, in Huddleston, VA. If you've never been... It's incredible. We've been knee deep in VRBO in an attempt to estimate occupancy, rates and potential income. We've learned a lot but would love to hear from other property owners on the lake or in similar situations.
Our house (assuming it goes through) sleeps 8 with wide water and mountain views. What are your rates during peak season, off season and what kind of income are you generating? Any tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks! Scott
