Post: Help for an overthinker! - STR/Short Term Rental Markets

Definitely pick a place you want to go often! A lot of people say to leave emotions out of financial decisions, however, in some cases it is good to tap into how you feel.

Also - what is your lifestyle life? Do you have a family or partner? Have kids or looking to have them anytime soon? If you have a family, I'd skip the small condo in Seattle and go for something bigger, maybe in a place with more outdoor fun opportunities. However, if you're single or partnered and like to go out and dine and drink and walk around, definitely get the Seattle condo!

I'm not uber-experienced in vacation rentals but I did help manage one near downtown Seattle and also lived in Seattle for almost twenty years. If you're leaning toward Seattle feel free to shoot me a message and I can tell you more about the area.

Seattle is one place where property values rarely go down, however, I had a bit of a hard time selling my co-op unit in 2020. I think there are a number of reasons for that, however, it's worth seeing how long condos in the area sit on the market and see if you'd want to do that when you're ready to sell.

But - don't overthink it too much! What do they say...follow your heart but take your brain with you?

VRBO has definitely picked up for us recently, and the people I work with own smaller units (1-2 bedrooms)

I'm not an investor at this point, but use Advanced Insurance Solutions (Allstate) in Everett for my home and auto and find it to be much more personalized than when I work with other insurance companies.

Hasn't seemed to affect the properties I work with, however, I feel like the majority of our guests are from the nearby big city or other bigger cities within the state.

I don't think it hurts to network with people that you want to work with and feel it out a bit. Seems to me that real estate agents and mortgage broker thrive on networking, so wouldn't be a waste of your time to have a conversation to get to know more about what they can provide.

Matt, with the time away from the family - is it that she misses you and wants you around more or that she is overwhelmed with the work she is taking on at home? (Might be both! But which one more?)

I agree with her in some respects as the mom of a young child - you can't get that time back! But I realize your side of things, too. I'm guessing there is a good balance somewhere in there.

What are her reasons for not wanting to buy more?
