Thats awesome I'm looking to do something similar when I go back stateside. Potentially using it for a small multifamily and moving every year. i=Its really cool to hear other people taking advantage of the va loan. Good luck in future endeavors 

Steve,that's great advice, thank you. I'm definitely not expecting weekly coaching or pep talks. I'm hoping that there will be some tasks that i'll be able to do for him. He gets some free help and I get experience. Potential win win.

7 months ago I found out my wife and I were going to have our first child while this is super exciting I immediately realized the need to transition into a career that allows me to build generational wealth and spend time with my family. Since then, I've been reading all the real estate books I can get my hands on (podcasts too). Several weeks back I met a man that owned several businesses and rental properties (commercial and residential). He is definitely someone that I'd learn a lot from and quickly recognized him as a possible mentor. I have written out a letter that I plan on sending to him. Any criticism or comments are encouraged. 

Experienced investors: How would you want to be approached by someone seeking mentorship.

Dear Mr. so and so

You may not remember but recently my wife and I purchased a Hyundai Santa Fe from your dealership. Which was great because we've been searching for a similar vehicle for quite some time. Surprisingly, my excitement of finally finding a vehicle came second string to the excitement I had from our conversation. This is because after months of reading book after book, listening to endless podcasts and audiobooks, I had finally met someone who had escaped the rat race, and gained financial independence through diverse streams of income, a true every day millionaire. My goals weren’t as arbitrary anymore, there was a man standing in front of me who had accomplished what I’m striving toward.

All of my future business endeavors revolve around developing a large real estate portfolio and gradually diversifying into other forms of passive income. So naturally my research and self-education have been related to the eventual accomplishment of these goals. While reading books, watching videos, and analyzing deals are valuable ways to educate yourself, nothing substitutes real world experience or the opportunity to learn from an expert. Whether, it’s helping manage properties, analyzing deals, coordinating with agents, lenders, contractors, or tenants. I want to do WHATEVER I possibly can to bring you and your company’s value. I realize that you may be thinking the time you'd invest in me  wouldn’t be worth the value I could provide you. I fully understand that your time is extremely valuable, but I’m willing and eager to work as hard as possible. The opportunity to gain experience and entrepreneurial wisdom from you would be invaluable, so my goal is to be invaluable to you. While the Air Force dictates what I do with a large portion of my time what’s left is at your disposal.

I’m sure you’ve had many people request advice or mentorship from you in the past, perhaps they expected you to offer it freely. I do not. I understand that in any healthy human interaction that both parties must see something of value to begin or continue in a relationship. While it’s clear that I stand to gain a wealth of experience and skills, you will gain a colleague with a hunger to learn and an eager desire to aid you in your undertakings. I believe this can be mutually beneficial. Even if you’re not interested in anything like this please let me know what kind of criteria you personally use to find deals and I’ll find some properties to send your way. I look forward to hearing back from you.
