Post: Construction Advice for Newbie

Hey All,

I have been a buy and hold investor for a little while but now am seriously trying to venture into multi family construction projects. My state is pretty expensive and buying and developing something local is going to be beyond my reach. I am looking for any advice primarily on how and where to start looking into construction and secondary how to do it remotely (as investor). I know there is a lot of information out there but if someone can point me to a simple step wise guidance as to what to look for from site selection (like what questions to ask etc) all the way to get into thick of actual development, I will be greatly obliged. Thanks for your help in advance.

@Kevin Sobilo Definitely makes sense. I will try to nail that down soon.

@Adam Mykel Cox thats something I am leaning towards given the market conditions of my local area.

@Alpesh Parmar thanks! I will look into that for sure. What do you do to manage those OOS properties? Regular property managers?

@Mike Dorneman thanks! Great info. However, the problem with where I know markets (my area) is that its crazy expensive to get in and the rent to price ratio will have me invest way too much money for almost 0 cash flow. West coast ... sigh! So I need to find alternative markets.

Hey Folks,

I am totally newbie here and getting ready to get my hands dirty with rentals. Being not from the same industry in my current situation, I know it took me well over a decade to first understand how I can optimize my earning potential and then eventually somewhat be successful in that.

For real estate, my question is for all experienced folks there what will be your advice for me to follow so that I can attain some level of success in this business?  What to do and what NOT to do? Anything that you thought if you would have know when you started, it would have accelerated your growth potential. Thanks in advance for your help!
