Thanks for the information. That thread (and others I found on 50%) are very helpful. I'm feeling more prepared for my first deal every day.

Thanks Bill. I found one in my area but it doesn't meet until August 9th. Feels so far away for someone excited to start talking to people face-to-face that are already doing what I want to do.

Taylor, I too am new to Real Estate Investment. For many years I have been (and am still) in the computer programming field.

It can be very hard to hear negatives and statements that seem to try to keep you away from your dreams.
But we (you and I) are trying to move past those and learn what will bring us closer to our dreams.

I wish I had the real estate knowledge already to give you advice but the best I have is similar to Scott's posts... believe in you more than the negative comments. Find your strengths and know your limits then you can challenge yourself to greatness.

Hello everyone. I'm Victor from Flint, Michigan. I have recently become very interested in the world of REI and have been reading several books to try and learn more. So far I have learned I have a lot more to learn! :)
These books have been helpful but I am starting to get a bit overwhelmed and think a mentor would be extremely helpful to me.
My short term goal is to walk through the entire process of finding and closing my first deal. My long term goal is to establish a real estate investment portfolio that will replace the income I make at my day job.
I am looking for local REI groups to attend meetings in hopes of finding a mentor. I located the Genesee Landlord Association but other than that I have not found other REI groups in my area.
Can anyone assist with REI groups local to Flint, MI and information on their meetings?

I am also considering a long-distance mentor if I cannot find one in my area.
