Hi @Ivan Barratt! I would like to think I'm fairly decent at sales. However, the extent of my sales related experience is with Planet Fitness selling gym memberships. I started out as just a Front Desk employee back in 2017, became the Assistant Manager of the Brownsburg location in 2018, and then about a month or so later I became the General Manager of that location. What I've found to be helpful for me with sales in those positions was utilizing the sales system that PF created and taught me during my training. It was their system, but I found ways to make their sales pitch my own, which I think was good because it made the experience for the potential gym member more personable. This way I didn't sound like a robot regurgitating information, or just like a guy obviously trying to push them to buy. Hope this helps! Cheers! :)

@Branden Edenfield that's some pretty insightful advice! I didn't even think about it from that perspective before. If ya don't mind I would love to hear more about your opinion/recommendation on some of these companies. Also, just curious, but how are you able to dissect companies a part like this? Did it require a lot of training and education to learn to do so, or are there a few key things you look for that enable you to gauge a company? Sorry, if this is a bit much. I just thought that was pretty interesting. Looking forward to your response. Cheers! :)

@Justin Polston THANKS for responding! I live in Indy just south of Broad Ripple. I'm not sure if there's a better way to go about doing this, but what I had been doing was searching for companies with multiple large apartments in and near Indy from Indeed. Once I found them on Indeed, I would go to the company website, and apply for the position(s) via their website.

@Gilbert Chan Unfortunately I don't have a lot of advice to offer for ya because I'm a newbie. However as far as a Real Estate Broker try giving Jeff Schafer a try. He's a good friend of mine. I'll link his LinkedIn page below. Also, although I don't have much experience, let me know if there's anything I can do for ya. I live in Indy, so if you need any eyes or ears around here feel free to reach out to me and I can see if there's anything I can find out for ya. Also, I'm a photographer, so if you happen to need anything image related let me know, and I can whip up something for ya!

Hello Everyone,

I want to begin by saying thank you to everyone that takes the time to reply to this post. I recently moved to Indianapolis and am in search of an Assistant Property Manager position. The reason I am searching for this type of job is so that I can begin to get some hands-on experience in real estate while also being paid. However, the problem I face is that I have no experience in property management. Do any of you have any advice on how to begin a career in this field without having any previous experience? Or are there any positions that are more entry level-like than asst. property manager that could help me work my way up to this?

Although I unfortunately don't have a background in the field, I can detail the sort of background and experiences I do have. I graduated from a small liberal arts college for men (Wabash College) in Crawfordsville, IN with a double major in English Literature and Fine Art. I've been a server at a brewery (Old Bakery Beer Co. - Alton, IL) , a delivery Driver for Jimmy John's (JJ - Alton, IL), a photographer and editor for a startup art magazine (Warm Soda Magazine - St. Louis, MO), and a General Manager of a Planet Fitness (PF - Brownsburg, IN).

I know my background probably doesn't strike employers as an ideal one for the job, but do you all have any recommendations on how I might go about getting them to seriously consider me? Also, I very new to Bigger Pockets. If there are any free real estate meetups in Indy that any of you know about, do ya mind telling me about them? I would love to meet some people and talk in person. Thanks for listening to me.

Best,

Zachary T. Boren
