Yes, you can buy in an SDIRA or a SD401K however, having the mortgage in your name is a prohibited transaction. 

Several were employees of my investment company and played major roles in 3,500+ units acquired, while supporting students who’ve now surpassed $1B in transactions.

Just be sure to avoid prohibited transactions, no personal use of the property, and don’t pay for repairs out of pocket.
