I also believe many people might find it more convenient to wait until their current out-of-state license expires before enduring the fun and joy that is to be had at the Division Of Motor Vehicles.If everything else checks out, it wouldn't raise a red flag for me.

Now if you have a year or two to travel to all these places  you can check them all out in person and figure out what works for you..Maybe rent a motor home and drive the entire country.. spending a few weeks in each area to see if you like it.
