If you want a more concrete list, some of the worst ways to spend money (in my opinion):Going to the movies, buying drinks out regularly, trendy home decor (that will soon be out of style), buying a new car, eating out regularly, impulse buys (of basically any kind, to include travel unless it's an insanely good deal), books you won't read (if you know you'll read them it's fine), anything to "keep up with the Joneses", basically anything that won't last.

She ate about a hundred frozen healthy choice meals, placed the tray back in the box, and placed the box in the kitchen cabinets. she had tons of shipping boxes and appeared to be doing a lot of impulse shopping.

It'll take a while to get to your first good year.If you have the strategy/shelter to plan for the bad years, then I  prefer a 1099 check.However, if on your first big sale, you want to buy a Porsche, think I'd stick with a salary as a control on your impulses.
