For linens, you want a 70/30 or so cotton/poly blend. 100% cotton is nice but it is harder to get stains out of and wrinkles badly.

Steel wool can clean up the worst issues.Try bamboo cutting boards.I've personally never had to replace cutting boards.

We use white cotton duvet covers and wash after each guest stay.  

I also use their Egyptian cotton & Pima cotton linens.

Insulation:Install Insulation: Fill the space between floor joists with fiberglass insulation or cellulose wool.

Painting the walls in SW aesthetic white or Behr spun wool and trim in SW extra white or Behr ultra white would make that tile look great.
