That makes sense since the thin fiberglass shell of the tub doesn't seem strong enough to support the weight of an adult.I wonder if prior to placing a new liner in, they can drill several small holes into the bottom of the old tub and shoot mortar or epoxy or something underneath to shore up the support.Thanks for the info.

Demo 5-6 rows of subway tile and cement board in the shower, pull up the fiberglass pan, have a new drain put in.

Remember to use fiberglass mesh tape on joints.cracks when you apply plaster and drywall compound!

We had it coated with a fiberglass material, NOT CHEAP, but that was >10 years ago & its held up very well given our snow load, freeze & thaw due to inside heat & then the CONSTANT rain.

Can you blow in some fiberglass on top of it?
