You can make minor adjustments based on the type of appliances (dishwasher, clothes washer and dryer, air conditioning, etc.) and the size of the rental.

New clothes for your wardrobe, new housewares, bedding, you name it. 

The minors lost clothing, toys, television and computer games, etc, etc. so the kids are filing suit individually.

I don't know if we can base a decision on car cleanliness or clothing that may be debatable.

When I was dating my wife, she'd go back to her place & her clothes would smell of it.

Even if they do smoke outside, the smell often follows them inside on their clothes or just by way of the window or door being open.I've heard the ozone machines can work wonders.
