There are building codes that can be enforced but alot of times the people renting from these "slumlords" do not or cannot report these infractions because they are outright afraid that they will lose their homes and then not receive their deposits back, which mostly they won't because the landlord will keep it to "repair" the home, which they then don't do as well as give the tenant a bad reference which keeps them from qualifying for a better home.

The attorney gives his opinion, which he is entitled to do, but he doesn't give a single case where the infraction was by someone trying to buy someone's house.Don't confuse someone's opinion, with a court order.

This is based on the high volume of conversations I'm seeing in STR groups from people freaking out that their summer calendars aren't yet booked, dropping their nightly rates and minimum stays, lamenting property tax increases (that they didn't factor in when purchasing), increased insurance costs and wanting to nickel and dime guests on every minor infraction.

Instead show them how it is meant to be used in a safe manner, how wonderful it is, it is part of the premises and any unsafe use will be treated as a lease infraction and the tenant should govern them selves accordingly.
