Similarly, the murder rate in large parts of Mexico is lower than that of my home country Canada, which itself is significantly lower than in the US.

Some might not let you own within 50 KM of the coast or border....like Mexico.  

In 1997 I lived in Mazatlan, Mexico, for a year, and while I have not been back, I have fond memories of the friendships I made and the great cuisine. 

Last thing I'd want to do is muck around overseas without tangible experience in specific markets.I had a friend who "invested" in Baja, Mexico.

As an Aside I follow Ryan Murdock on facebook and he is traveling the US in a RV  US and Mexico and has been at least for almost a year it seems so maybe his roll has been taken over by someone else in the ORG..

the issue for those type of units was the renter pool was pretty much all working class a lot in construction and as you know construction stopped dead in its tracks in many markets.. so they moved  left the state went back to mexico or where ever..
