I recently was at a seminar and the speaker said he has much better success in the 4th month or so after the person dies, as it takes about that long for the people to grieve and then be interested in selling.

It's up to someone to contact the tax assessor's office themselves to initiate a tax grievance.Also, if you grieve your taxes this May, for example, and the county decides to accept a lower assessed value, they do not change the amount or assessment for the payment due in October.
