When it comes to criminal history, especially something older like a 7–8-year-old felony, I think context is key.

The cops in the area know the guy, he is a career criminal who has held a gun to employees and at her, yet he is still involved in her business dealings and in her house.

They can only control criminals, so make everyone a criminal in some small way  Plus the other two reasons are reason enough. :-).
