Lots of posts about this online, but I think you'd have more potential influence on the upside than buying an STR -- since you're locked into the property & location as soon as you buy.

Your best bet is to first get a copy of the trust agreement (most beneficiaries have a right to get a report and access to underlying documents) to make sure that you don't have more influence than you might think.

I would make sure to check their reviews so that you don't get baited by a bad lender.As far as appraisal, the lender is not supposed to influence the value, but you can provide comps/reports to the appraiser - it doesn't mean he will use it but at least you can help them out.
