Hi Stephen,STRs are legal for certain types of house hackers (you can, for example, rent out two of three bedrooms in an apartment where you live).However, on the more traditional side of investing, the law of supply and demand makes positive cash flow in nyc exceedingly rare because so many people are willing to buy for so many other reasons - namely, appreciation.I’ve seen MTRs offer a slight increase in cap rate in exchange for more work but nothing close to a good cash on cash return from jump.
