All my life, my financial aspirations have been to max out my retirement accounts, but now I am trying to access my capital to get into real estate.

I've lived in AZ most of my life but got my start in real estate as an investor while stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina as a paratrooper with the Army's 82nd Airborne, and deployed to Afghanistan.

NJ has its own set of major issues, for example tenant for life, 5 year COs, some cities have rent control....

Should I skip the city life and commute right away and buy a multi family somewhere?

Minut multi sensor (but mainly for sound levels for us), zwave everything (door contacts, yale locks, thermostats, water leak sensors, temp/humidity sensors, garage door controllers, garage door tilt sensors (to see if the door is open/closed), security cameras covering all exterior entrances plus the driveway, zwave lights switches to remote control lights on exterior security floods and/or certain lights inside the property, some type of doorbell cam, zwave motion sensors, Samsung Smartthings hub, wifi smart plugs for certain devices inside...and the list goes on. 

I've done some crazy deals in my life that I had no business doing, and it's always based on reducing what the owner wants vs. what he needs. 

@Jamaal Jackson, my guess is that you'll soon get tired of the idea of living out of an RV for the rest of your life.  

Mine includes roof 25 year life span, floors 10 year life span, appliances and hot water heater 12 year life span, hvac 20 year life span, etc.

I'm by no means an expert RE investor, but believe me it can be a life changer.
