From Journalist to Jobless my Plan for Success

Hey all, thanks for checking this out and I hope you follow me on my path to financial freedom, and I hope I can get some inspiration along the way.

I recently received an inheritance, and after a lot of consideration on what to do, I've decided to invest that money into real estate. The stock market scares the you know what out of me, so I just don't feel comfortable relying on that for my future, and I love to make people happy and help them out whenever I can, so after researching flipping, I feel like this is the best way to make money and make people happy at the same time.

I've been a video journalist for almost a decade and while I've had a great time and wouldn't give up my experience for anything, I can see where my industry is heading and I really don't believe I will have a job when I'm nearing retirement, that is if my back would even hold out that long carrying 60 pounds of gear everyday.

So I'm taking an incredibly bold and dangerous move. I've decided to quit my job for at least a year and dive head first into the world of real estate!

After looking at my options and where I would be the happiest, I have decided to move back to Orlando, FL to start this new business. There were many reasons why Orlando won out, one because it's a really hot market, but from the looks of it, there are still plenty of deals out there to be had with a lot of legwork. I also absolutely love Orlando and everything about it, except for anything west of I-4 lol. Finally both me and my business partner have some connections there already that will help get this off the ground.

Before I move down and quit my job I need to lay as much groundwork down as possible. My first step will be to find a great investor friendly agent to find a multi-family. This is going to be the trickiest part I believe. I want to be able to at the very least live for free for this coming year so that I can save as much money as possible. The Problem?? While I have a job now, I won't have a job when I get there. I will be doing some things that I can try and generate some income during this year, like getting my real estate license, and maybe even drive for Uber to at least get some spending cash. But finding a lender who would take this risk will be a huge hurdle I think.

More to come! Stay tuned!

  2. James - I just came across your post.  I've lived in Orlando for two years and just began investing in RE myself.  I agree Orlando is a great place to be, lots of great connections and investor groups to plug into.  I'd love to chat more keep in touch!
