Question For Canadian Investors

Hi, I just listened to podcast 238 where Swanny talks about taking his condo and 1031 exchange into a multifamily.  Is there a similar strategy available for Canadians to avoid capital gains?

My townhouse in Surrey has appreciated recently.  I bought it for $185,000 in 2010. Similar units are now selling for around $300,000. I have been debating selling it and freeing up a mortgage to buy a single family home.

Can any Canadian investors shed light on this topic?

Thanks,
Shaidah
