New Foreign Investor looking to invest in Cape Town South Africa

Hi everyone! My name is Jessica, and I’m based in New Jersey. I’m a first-time real estate investor with a growing interest in international markets, specifically South Africa. After spending time in Cape Town recently with my partner (who lives locally), I became deeply intrigued by the investment potential in the Gordon’s Bay area. I adored the coastal charm, affordability, and the lifestyle flexibility really stood out to me.

I’m planning a temporary relocation to South Africa (6-8 months), where I’ll continue working remotely while learning the ropes of passive income generation through property. My goal is to build a sustainable, long term investment strategy that aligns with both lifestyle and financial growth.

As someone new to the game, I’m currently exploring:

- Buy-and-hold vs. short-term rental strategies

- What works best for foreign investors in Cape Town

- Legal, tax, and management considerations for non-residents

- How to build a portfolio that supports remote work and global mobility

I’d love to hear from anyone with experience investing in South Africa especially in the Helderberg region or Gordon’s Bay. What strategy would you recommend for someone in my position, and why? Any agent referrals, resources, or lessons learned would be incredibly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your insights and support!

Warmly,

Jessica
