How much time is needed to acquire pre-foreclosures before sale?

A local online news publication I'm using for public notices conveniently lists pre-foreclosures by sale date. How far out from the present date should I start using these leads? What's the minimum time needed to acquire one of these about to be sold via auction? Thanks
