I just talked to a friend of mine who said I should form an LLC first and make offers and bids etc thru the LLC and If I were applying for Hard Money I should do so thru the LLC but usually I would have to give a personal guarentee. what do you think?

This statement is far from the truth and is often used by the gurus.
You should have your entity in the state in which you are doing business in. If you are buying in CA, opening an LLC in Nevada does not give you the liability protection of the entity for CA! Yes it is cheaper to start in Nevada, but it does you no good unless you are doing your biz in NV!
