Where to set up LLC - California, Wyoming, or Ohio?

Greetings BP friends,

My sister and I want to set up an LLC for liability protection. We live in California but want to invest in Ohio. We heard generally that Wyoming is the best place to register the LLC for the best protection from a Clayton Morris podcast. I chatted with another attorney that says we would want to set up the LLC in Ohio where the property is located. Any advice?

Hi @Amy Velasquez. I am not an attorney, but what I typically hear from them is what you heard from yours: investors should form their LLC in the state where their properties will be located.

And then of course they have to register their LLC with the California Secretary of State because rules are rules.

I have heard various strategies over the years involving forming your LLC in some state other than where you live and other than where your property will be located, but from what I understand these strategies are not always necessarily the best in the long run.
