Need some suggestions about buying, selling, and renting.

Hi guys, wanted to get some feed back from the bigger pockets fam. Me, and 2 other siblings want to start investing in property. We were thinking about fixing our bad credit 1st then once we are at a respectable credit range we wanted to see what we can qualify for? All while this is happening we all thought we contribute a certain percentage of our checks and put it into our 1st investment. Thing is we dont know whether we look into single family homes, or commercial buildings. Please share any suggestions on how we should approach this.
