Where to keep money for down payment

Hi everyone, 

I was wondering where i can put my money, roughly 8k while i get work experience (currently 18, wanting to buy my first property at 20 and in the meantime learn and grow). I was thinking of putting it in an index fund but that would be more for a 5-10 year timeline. another option would be individual stocks but there is a lot of risk involved in that.
