First Steps on Real Estate Investing

So I have $20,000 in the bank locked in a GIS account for one year. I am working full time right now and will be going to college for a year in the fall. But I’m not sure. Is $20,000 enough to invest in real estate? What path should I take with that? Do I buy a rental property off the bat or is there a different option I should take?
