I say you don't need a turnkey company.  Typically they will have limited inventory, so you're stuck with what they have.   I also notice many of them buy in the worst parts of town.   Buying a home that needs minimal make ready should give you many many more options.  Should not be that hard to get it rented after that and you're in business.
