Newbie! Taxes on STR

I think we have decided to start our REI journey with a STR! Just looking for any advice some may have. The whole banking process is going to be learning curve for us, but I read on another post that STR income would be taxed as active not passive income. Not sure what that means exaclty.?? Any other general info to offer?
