Seeking advice for a potential deal gone bad.

So I entered into a contract with a longtime associate. The deal was solid and straight forward. The complication came when the company that granted a construction loan panicked due to Covid - 19 shutdown. They placed a lien on the loan and the attorney that needs to sign the release apparently lives in China. So my associate stated that he'd get a loan to pay back my initial and in exchange I'd wait out the lien issue to collect on the 9% venture. Week after the deadline that we set for him to repay the initial, I'm still waiting to be paid. There is no communication from my associate at all. Technically my deal is with his LLC and not him. Any advice? Or did I just make a stupid deal?
