Use Your Local Bank Or Credit Union

When I am listening to the BP podcast I often hear the advice to use your local bank or credit union for great rates. As someone considering long-distance BRRRR are guests typically referring to local banks as the market local to where they live or where they intend to invest.

Which do you prefer?

I am in the San Francisco Bay Area looking to invest in the Mid-West.  Checking out Montgomery AL, Kansas City MO and Independence, MO.

Any tips of credit unions or banks would be helpful.

I use my local credit union. But they do commercial loans, and some of them may not do them. They also hold all their loans in-house, so that's something else to consider.
