I recently obtained my RE salesperson license and also recently joined a local brokerage. My question is what are the steps that I can take to get my first listing.

Hi John - I too am a Realtor.  The first step the brokerage I work for had me do was to send a letter to my "Circle of Influence". This is essentially all friends and family where you announce your new venture and ask for referrals if they, or anyone they know, is planning on buying or selling their home in the near future.  Depending on who your friends and family are, they may already have a Realtor they've worked with or know really well and do not want to switch, or give potential business to a "newbie".  Unfortunately, this has happened more often than not. Outside of your "Circle of Influence", it's about making contacts, and trying to discuss real estate with at least 1-2 new people each day. I also recommend setting up a facebook business page where you post relevant articles about the local market, as well as tips and events that people may be interested in.  The goal is to provide relevant information on a regular basis, without a sales pitch.  I've had more success and business generated from my facebook business page than anything else. Best of luck!!

John
