I find this statement to be interesting. I called someone to bid on a 8 week job, they came back and told me they don't know commercial code. What a company.

Just to play devil's advocate =) ....

I'd rather someone tell me honestly what their capabilities are then get into something they can't handle. Nothing worse than a sub who is in over their head. 

I regularly tell people that under a certain job size and scope, I'll be happy to work for them but they won't like my prices. For a residential firm in our area, we're extremely heavy in planning, administration, and logistical management... which makes us completely the wrong tool for paint and carpet renovations.
