Small investment group

I've been talking to friends and family about starting a small investment group. we would like to put our cash together to buy properties and stocks. I've been trying to find info on how to structure this but I've only been able to find info on starting a group investing in stocks. Can a small group of 10 to 20 people not do both, and how can it be done?
