Quick Survey: How Did You Discover BiggerPockets?

Hey there. I'm wondering how you discovered BiggerPockets? This is an informal survey for a presentation I'm doing.

I was a wannabe REI a few years ago and started googling. When I found a post by BP I was really impressed with the amount and type of information provided, so I poked around...

Since then, and 99% thanks to BiggerPockets for the amazing info and resources, I have become an "actual" REI - I close on my 23rd unit in a few weeks.

I still consider myself quite a newbie in most regards, but hope to build on this foundation and start to scale over this year and next.

An agent, I was working with at the time told me to check Bigger Pockets out and listen to the podcast.

I was frustrated with my job. The single property I was renting was losing a little bit each month. So I bought the audiobook The Book of Real Estate Investing by Brandon Turner. He mentioned biggerpockets.com several times. So I checked out the website.

In 2011, prior to my first non-primary residence investment, I found bigger pockets through a web search for (i) guidance on real estate investment dos and don’ts and (ii) general advice.

I honestly just stumbled into BP while doing google search for Townhomes to move into then rent out. Currently a SFH owner and soon to be an empty nester in a year, hence the plan of downsizing. I am hooked! I am now a wannabe REI and starting with educating myself thru BP forums and podcasts! Can't wait to dive into it!

Finished my first remodel and was getting ready to rent. Googled all kinds of questions such as "Colorado rental laws" "Colorado property lease" "how to get tenants"
And this weird website kept popping up with all the answers.
Then found out that what I was doing was called "BRRR" I thought I had an original idea. Turns out - no.

After reading Rich Dad Poor Dad I looked for what could be found on You Tube for other real estate knowledge as well as other streams of income and came across One of Brandon's videos. Hooked since then.

I have a friend that is investing in out of state properties and he told me to listen to BP podcasts and go to Bigger Pockets as there is a wealth of knowledge there, and good ways to network.

Google with a funny story... I have a website that ranks very well for the keyword note investing. One day I saw Bigger pockets "moving in" on my top 10 results for multiple related keywords. I said - hey I better check them out and find out what they are doing right! Instead seeing competition I saw opportunity through collaboration.

A close collegue and I had been discussing home improvement and rental property investment for a few months, when he recommended I look into biggerpockets. After discovering it, I had 4-5 more folks recommend it. Funny, I am guessing people mentioned it to me before though that little extra step of taking action, creating an account, exploring the site, made all the difference.
Take Action!! Make time for your highest value activities, like learning a new skill or tool... like biggerpockets.

I was watching YouTube videos from a "guru" and a video from Brandon Turner came on in the sequence. I set up an account and became a pro member immediately and haven't stopped since. Haven't even seen nor care to sees another bit from the "guru" again.

Mr. @Steve Babiak told me all about it at our local REIA group. Then he told me about it again. And again. And finally I listened to him and joined the community! And it's been one of the best things to ever happen to me. Now I'm trying to be like Steve and tell everyone I meet ;)

In my case, I just happened to sort of stumble upon the BP site; I would search on Google for some real estate topics, and links to BP always seemed to show up with ranking near the top of the search results. That sort of search result still seems to hold true about 10 Years After (and I am not referring to that old band there) - after I first encountered the BP site.

Back in college I started listening to podcasts and bigger pockets looked interesting. The first few I listened too had people with hundreds of units so I actually stopped listening for a couple years thinking it was a podcast for the rich. Flash forward I started listening again, I close on my first rental this week. I posted an add that it will be up for rent next month, phone has been ringing off the hook. I think I’m hooked on real estate. Thanks bigger pockets.
