Chicago Investor: how bad is split faced block?

Hello Everyone,

Currently I am looking for my first rental property in the Chicago land area.  While I have been canvassing the market it appears that the majority of the inventory has a split block exterior. So far I have had several realtors tell me to avoid split block at all cost and that is what I have been doing.  

I am currently seeking any guidance as to whether or not I am over reacting or if split block really is a deal breaker.  

My current strategy, for the property I am seeking, is to buy and hold. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!
