National Register of Historic Places - Worcester MA

Hi there,

I plan to purchase a 3 decker in Worcester next month that is currently owned by my mother.

This home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. I am wondering if there is any special incentive for being on that list?

The house needs some updating and light renovation and I thought I read somewhere that there can be special programs for home owners trying to preserve a piece of property from the list.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. If anyone has more information on the subject I would appreciate some help!

Thank you!!

On larger projects being on the National Register makes possible participation in the 20% Federal historic preservation tax credits and possible Massachusetts tax credits.  This project won't be big enough.  Some cities have tax incentives for historic preservation.  Worcester has some loan programs, I think.   There is a preservationworcester.org site that lists the programs.
