Successful Investors: Did You Start In RE Or Have Other Money

I was recently at a meeting where the speaker stated that many investors made their seed money in other ventures such as owning restaurants, a professional career such as CPA, etc. I have had numerous businesses through the years but it was serious health issue and the realization that disability social security payments would not allow me to live that made me want to build a successful RE portfolio. In 2012 I officially started investing again. Thanks to good timing (which I didn't really realize) the market was very good to me allowing me to pyramid up to much better income. I also don't live the high life, etc. Some of my RE investment money has come from my business. It treats me well although I am considering selling out. I have had a couple guys approach me unsolicited about selling and may make that decision within a couple of years. I have seen @Jay Hinrichs story and know he started at a young age and has done very well. What is your story?
